The Faux Bob.

The faux bob is the easiest way there is to shortening long hair without actually cutting it off to make a real bob.
Since I perfected the ability to make a faux bob, I’ve rocked it a few times and with good results. Lots of people have asked how I made it shorter without getting the chop and have it remain in place the entire day which is all quite easy.
The first time I tried it out, I wore a stretchy headband and tucked the ends of expressions into the headband. It worked with the exception of the headband being visible as it was of a different colour from the hair. The other method is to gather your hair at the end, hold a little ponytail then fold it inwards and hold it in place with either a butterfly clip or hair pins on both sides of the hair. A method I have used several times.
I’ve worn it twice with the headband and several times without. The length of the bob varies with the ponytail you make and so too does the style. You can have it looser and freer or tighter and smoother. It all depends on what works for you and are comfortable with.

PS: It wouldn’t be a faux bob if you held your hair out instead of inwards towards the neck.

Wet ‘Expressions’ Look.

Being all over the runways of Fashion Week Spring 2013 notwithstanding, Beyonce singlehandedly tried to bring back the wet hair with her 2014 MTV Music Awards performance look.
In this vein, I decided to take a couple of pictures after washing my hair to see if I too can successfully rock it – for a few hours at least.
Honestly, I love how lustrous and dark the hair looks although a little thinner due to the moisture. Also the curls were revived after the wash.

Wet - Look Hair

If you really want to commit; I bet you could add styling gel to keep the look for a week or two while it is still wet. All mine had to it was hair lotion so it’d retain the lustre and shine when dry.

And this is how Beyonce looked during her performance. In hindsight; I should have gone full glam and given her a run for her money!

PS: All the pictures were taken during the air drying process since synthetic weaves are flammable.

Expressions.

I’ve had the urge to get my hair for the longest time that it suddenly became something I couldn’t ignore anymore. I felt I shouldn’t look like a certified village belle just because I am a homebody nowadays, it’s no excuse to let oneself go. Sometimes, you need a bit of glam to make you feel better and looking pretty 24/7 does that.
I had my hair done twice in the space of a day. I got it weaved on 04/04/14 and I hardly recognized myself. It was a weave I had used before but red this time. When the job was done, I looked like a redheaded scarecrow. The worst I have ever looked with a weave!
With a lot of misgivings and a heavy heart, I gave myself a night to sleep on it then see if everything would be rosy in the morning. After flat ironing and a lot of oiling on Saturday of 05/04/14, it didn’t look any better just more polished. It was then that I unequivocally proceeded to take it out.
Everyone at home was surprised by how fast I’d taken it out but I felt better going around with my God given hair than be seen with a bad hair job even if at home. Luckily, my mother had decided to get hers done too and fortunately for me, she let me get it re-done on 06/04/14.
Much as I have a veritable home salon, I find human hair weaves hard to maintain. I hate having to iron or curl whenever the need arises so I chose to use Expressions; a synthetic weave I first used in 2012 (but removed after two weeks) and a different weaveologist. Before it was all done, I felt and looked more like myself so much so that I thanked her profusely.

The Shanah everyone knows

Moles and all, this is the Shanah everyone is used to. Ironically, the compliments flew in immediately unlike the day before where everyone had looked and kept quiet.

Fringe Benefits.

It’s only logical for me to miss being all cute and dolled up now that I am on leave, right?
In my teen years, my cousins and I used to have a day in the week to look all glammed up. The expression , ‘all dressed up and no where to go’ literary described us those days. It was a day where we not only made up but dressed up in some of our finest to perk up our mood. I also had these days with my childhood bff Sofia. She would come to my home and we’d go all out with a mini photo shoot too. Yes, we ‘werked’ our inner Tyra Banks and found the FIERCE within.
Seeing that I have been on leave for almost a month or so, I woke up one morning with the decision to have a glam day. I went all out with the make up and bling after the shower. With almost everything done, I wondered how to style my hair. My signature hairstyle – side swept bangs/fringe didn't quite cut it as I thought over doing something new? With that in mind, I proceeded to comb my hair all around my head and face.
It is at this point that I realised the lock of hair between my eyebrows was quite long to the point of grazing my upper lip and longer than the rest, yet not so long ago, I had gotten a cut. Logic won over the fear of how it would look and what my mother would say once she saw it. Suffice it to say, I cut off the extended locks with no qualms. Then… hello fantastic FRINGE! It’s been a few days but I am absolutely and utterly in love with it.
I don’t know if my excitement is as palpable as it was then for the first thing I did after combing it out was whatsapp my girl Mayi with pictures of proof. LOL. Yeah, glammy days are for taking pictures too to remind me of that moment. Hearing back from her took awhile but she loved it. I look fan –freaking – tastic. And best of all; my mother approves, says I look like my over a decade obsession Kenshin Himura from Samurai X. So weird she would remember this.
Anyway, I am not so sure whether I have done some exciting things this year but what I do know for sure is; this takes the cake for 2013. I am still excited over it.

Loose Curls And Bangs.

This is so long overdue I almost had second thoughts about actually writing and publishing. I did my hair for my brother’s do. I had to look super glamorous. LOL.
I used the weave Daniella, it is synthetic, super long with these loose curls and bangs. I do love a good bang/fringe and it turned out the way I hoped it would. I got it done the day before my brother’s do, rocked it for two good weeks then took it out.
There is no excuse I could make that would make y’all believe. I simply got irritated and the next thing I knew, I was asking my brother to help take it off. This is the second this has happened. I’m usually good with weaves but for these super long ones, I take them out after two weeks. Imagine that feeling you get when you feel the breeze on your scalp, sifting through your wispy hair. Yeah, I enjoy that a lot.
I got to enjoy that feeling for two weeks with utmost pleasure because my hair is shorter and I’m really loving it this way. I don’t miss longer hair at all.
Right now, I have my hair weaved which you will read about in the next post.

A Blonde Bomb.

I’ve been a little reluctant to do a hair post this time round for no apparent reason but thankfully, the ardent readers gave me a bit of a push. So here goes…
I did my current hair around the early days of May and been traipsing up and about with it for a month. I did it because I wondered if blonde would suit me like it does mum. Blonde hair is her thing on account of her complexion. I wanted something out of the norm from what I usually do and she had a blonde new weave lying around. If it hadn’t been for the weave lying around, I doubt I’d have gone and bought something blonde.
For one reason or another, there has been a mixed set of reactions. Most people think I bleached my hair, for some it is my natural hair color whilst others think I am sick with something that turned my hair to this. LOL. I have been having a jolly good time with the reactions and comments. The best comment so far has been from my friends and family. Suddenly, everyone is saying how much I look like my mother with the blonde hair. I don’t have to go around saying what body part of mine is hers anymore since the resemblance now is uncanny? The general consensus has been that I look damn fantastic as a blonde.

I love being a blonde. I think at some point in our lives we should get out of the box of what we’re used to and experience something new, You never know how it is going to turn out, It might be good or bad, but, no matter the reception or what others think, deep down you know you did it for YOU and you like it.
Aside from all that, I got these fabulous hair accessories from aunt and sister as birthday pressies and I am absolutely looking forward to changing my hair for them. I think braids would work and show them to maximum effect but on the other hand, I might not do something as tiresome as braids for I love the simplicity of getting a weave without sitting for 6 hours. The current hair trend of long braids looks too damn good not to try though.

A Short Bob

After six good months of running around like a bonafide village belle, I finally got round to doing my hair. It was such an impromptu decision that made me glad my mother had an extra hair piece lying around.
I ended up doing a bob because the hair pieces were short, for short hair. I wanted a serious fringe going on in my face but the person who weaved it on cut it a little shorter than I expected. Since I have had it for two weeks now, I guess it is OK. Besides, everyone says I look good and it is reminiscent of the styles Keri Hilson usually sports. And the red highlights at the front totally make it work.
Doesn’t it amuse you when people ask if your weave is actually your hair? That right there means it is good quality human hair.
The most fantastic thing about it is I can comb it different ways and curl it when I want to.

On the day I took the second picture, I was wearing a princess like white dress and someone told me I looked like a baby Angel.

Hair today Gone Tomorrow.

Before I had the insurmountable urge to cut my hair, I had gotten a weave on which lasted for only three weeks. Not that it was a bad weave, no. I was simply tired of everything that had to do with hair on my head. Imagine doing your hair for just three weeks then removing it. I always thought of it as a practice for the rich ladies and well, those in television…they can all afford it.

New Look.

If you happen to be an avid reader of my little bits and pieces, you’ll remember that I cut my back hair myself the time I first coloured it into my own version of a Dianna Agron inspired bob. I tried to maintain it despite the growth and what not. So, the last time I visited the Salon, I had all of it evened out and made shorter some more. My front hair is as short as the back and sides. Yes, no more side swept bangs or fringe which make my signature hair. I can still do it but it isn’t as long to look so fantastic like here.

Signature bangs

The upside of cutting it is; everyone tells me it has body now and looks fuller unlike before -this coming from me is strange because I am fond of telling my friends and aunt with really long hair how they’ll one day wake up and miss it when it fails to grow back! due to all the cutting. I have really straight and thin hair. The kind that makes you look bold when wet. I miss the fabulous bangs I would curl it into but not the length.

Ps: When you look at the ends of the first picture you'll notice how really short it is, even the signature bangs don't turn out as good like in the second picture.

Superstar ME!

I am absolutely wild about my hair. Want to know why? It makes me feel like one heck of a SUPERSTAR!
Been going around with my hair out since my last salon visit which I wrote about here, without the curls as those don’t last for more than two weeks at the max let alone a month. In essence I have been a cute village belle for longer than I had anticipated and was dying to get my hair plaited.

My signature hairstyle...
The choices were either a weave or twists which take way longer to get done than the weave but I settled on the twists. It was the only way I would get what I wanted. The first time I did this hairstyle was a couple of good years ago and in blonde ponytail. I felt like a Superstar then and do so now.
The difference between then and now is the hair color. I did it in red which I certainly didn’t choose but don’t mind. It is a pleasant surprise and change.
I love the new look and so do most people. They can’t seem to take their eyes off me. LOL. I am now contemplating on letting it be my signature hair where wearing hair additions/extensions is concerned. What do you think?

SUPERSTAR ME!

Bye To Cute Village Belle...

I decided to return to work after a few days within feeling better. It was hardly my decision to make as my mum kept on asking whether I was going to work the following day for a few consecutive days. So I did and the first thing on the agenda was getting my hair done cause I had taken out the weave, washed plus treatment. Being home turns one into a proper village belle.

Cute Village Belle.
I make a cute village belle with my glad rags on but, really, it shows a lack of seriousness and respect for the job when you take the cute village belle too far at work. I visited the salon round where I work and as the lady went through the motions of relaxing my hair, I paid no attention until the setting stage.
She combed my hair rather slicked it back, tied a thread running behind my ears which made me wonder if this was a new trend in the hair business. I didn’t bother to ask. I usually let these ladies do as they please with my hair long as I have the time. As she proceeded to put my hair in curlers, I noticed its length. It is almost the length it was before I cut into a Dianna Agron inspired bob (my version of it). I want to maintain short hair thus the not so subtle increase in length is not pleasant though I let it be. Hair is really like grass, however much you cut it it always grows back unless you have poor quality hair or you are at the stage where hair growth is no longer possible.
After the setting and hair dryer sessions, it finally dawned on me that the thread was to mark where I was going to place my headband seeing as I had gone into the salon with one adorning my hair. She removed the curlers, used a wide toothed comb to organise the curls a little and later asked me to wear my hairband. I have to say that I was impressed. Yes! No more cute village belle, cute city belle has taken over.

Cute City Belle.
Ps: I am going to wear different headbands until the curly hair wears out. I might do a pictorial post cause I have a not so small collection of hairbands.
