J’Adore: Caricatures.

My sister did these caricatures of us – me, her and our brother and I couldn’t be more amazed. I have been fascinated by caricatures of people for the longest time and thought to have many of my family as decor for when I am finally blessed with a home and house of my own. I find them really amusing, unique and fun to have. No one ever thinks of them as decor but they are quite impressive when done right. You either have a big head with the tiny body or one of your limbs as the focal point for the drawing while everything else is small.

Me and my siblings

When she shared these, I couldn’t get over the wonderment of it all most especially my mother’s! When I look at them (which I do all the time) I keep seeing her smile – she just shows teeth and her eyes. It is really her. I’m not saying my brother’s and sister’s aren’t like them just that my mother’s made quite the impression which I love.

My Mother

For clarity, I am the one on the left in the upper picture (she even got my signature hair right the side-swept bangs), my sister Sue then Sad our brother, and below is our mother.

J’Adore: Neon Hoop Earrings.

You find the most unexpected things when you’re not looking to buy…like these neon hoops in lemon green and hot pink. These were an unexpected find and I had to have them. I mean, how often does a girl come across hoop earrings in hot pink?

The day I got them, we were in a rush to go somewhere and I unfortunately didn’t have any money on me but I had to have them. As a quirk, I NEVER bargain when it comes to jewellery. But, this particular day, I bargained for them and after coming to a satisfactory price, I asked my brother to loan me the money and I was one happy customer.
I love them because of the colours – lemon green and hot pink (this is why I had to have both pairs) plus they have this gold trim inside that caps off all the uniqueness. They have character which I am into, lately. I am tired of the common hoops; gold or silver with no texture. I’m in the process of getting rid of the common ones for fierce ones like the ones Tia and Tamera or Lady Gaga wear. Those are banging.

My collection (so far) of hoop earrings with character

If most of my current pictures are to be believed, I have gotten more mileage out of the lemon green ones than the hot pink yet I love pink. The thing about hoops with character is; you can wear them with anything and feel instantly over dressed so invest in a good pair whenever you can.

J’Adore: My ‘HISS’ Collection.

I recently realized that I own quite a few snakeskin print shoes. Yes! Coincidence, right? Well, the python print Mizrahi pumps were the first ever shoes I owned in snakeskin print so they have quite a few mileage on them although shoes with a leather outer sole last quite long. They still look good as new and I rarely clean them. Whenever I wear these, someone always asks if they really are python skin and whether I feel bad for the snake that got killed just for me to wear it on shoes. Hmmm… aren’t I lucky that PETA is no where near in Africa?
The gladiator sandals were the next addition to the collection. I’ve had these for four years I think. I remember how me and my sister were the first to own gladiator sandals amongst everyone we knew and when the trend caught on, we are still the ones to own them in snakeskin. Aside from the scuffed up laces, these look as good as new too which makes me think they’re going to last longer than expected.

The Aldo pumps joined the fray last year and they are my go to pumps when I am filled with indecision over what shoes to wear with an outfit. I guess it has to do with the black and white print of the skin. There’s a friend of my mother’s who was over excited to share with me the news that she had gotten a snakeskin print purse exactly like my Aldo pumps for Christmas. I was naturally amused and happy for her. Her telling me this made me think I should look getting a matching purse for my shoes. Ha!….that is SO like old fashioned and for older women!

Then my latest are the the ones with ribbons on top which I got from my aunt last week after her recent trip abroad. My mother didn’t think it wise to own two pairs of the same print (the Mizrahi python print ones) but I was unconcerned. These are lighter and the design is quite different. They have a ribbon and a square toe unlike the round toed ones.

The snakeskin print is currently on trend and it is a neutral, that is it goes on anything and everything. The thing with animal print is not to over do it with a head to toe look.

J’Adore: My Floral Cuffs.

I came across these cuffs amongst the stuff a family friend had asked my mother to pass around to her friends and when I laid eyes on them, it could have been sacrilege to let them go to someone else! You should’ve seen the grin that split my face and the excitement I expressed over seeing them.
Funny enough, my mother thought no one would like them but after seeing how they looked on my wrist during a trial fitting, she thought twice! As a connoisseur of jewellery, I looked at her aghast. How can someone appreciative of jewellery not take these on sight? Accessories make me happy and these little babies are too gorgeous for words.

I love the colour and the design. The roses motif is so intricately detailed you have to marvel and appreciate the time and thought the creator put behind the work.
